Part of Tabacaria, no. 4 (a special Portugal-Frankfurt issue)
As we begin to take stock of this century that is closing, we can be sure of one thing: it was a very rich period for Portuguese poetry. This special issue brings together a number of poets representing the major creative and evolutionary trends in the decades after Fernando Pessoa, beginning with the poetic movement founded around Presenca (1926-40), the magazine that first recognized Pessoa's greatness and his role as Master for the new generation. Pessoa, significantly, published some of his finest work in Presenca.
Jose Regio, the first poet presented here, is followed by eight others who set the tone and the spirit for Portuguese poetry from the late 1920s to the 1980s: Vitorino Nemesio, Miguel Torga, Jorge de Sena, Carlos de Oliveira, Alexandre O'Neil, David Mourao-Ferreira, Ruy Belo and Luiza Neto Jorge.
