This is a partial translation of one of the most important texts produced by Motoori Norinaga. It covers a wide range of Norinaga's thought and provides a lens onto his philological methodology, as well as how he viewed literature, poetry, history, linguistics, and Shinto.
Over the course of ten years, Norinaga recorded thoughts on a variety of topics as well as quotes from works he thought were too rare or difficult for people to obtain. One important characteristic of Tamakatsuma is Norinaga's desire to instruct his studenys regarding scholarship and the proper attitude toward knowledge.
